Alex C. Velto Bat Conservation Area Trail

Info: Fifteen-acre land area with very short trail created by the Ontario Bays Initiative, used as a foraging area by endangered Indiana bats.  Eagle Ridge Partners who built the accompanying housing development was donated by them and endowed to maintain this area.  Leashed pets are allowed.

Directions/Location: This is located in the Eagle Ridge Village housing area off from Route 342 in Jefferson County, Evans Mills area a short distance near Calcium.  Head northwest on Route 342 from the corner of Route 342 and Route 11 near Calcium, a short distance from the Walmart SuperCenter (if coming from Watertown head out Leray Street/Route 11 until you find the corner of 11 and 342).  Over the crest of the hill and a short distance further will be the entrance to the Eagle Ridge housing area, go down Eagle Ridge Road and take a left onto Kestrel Drive, watch for the wooded area on the left along Kestrel Drive near the corner of Red Tail Lane.  There is also another parking area at the end of Northern Lane.

 

Trail Distance: Around a quarter of a mile from one parking area to the other, about half a mile from one end and back again to either parking area.

Fishing: No water access.

Pets Allowed: Dogs on a leash.
