Watertown's current City Hall was built on the corner of Washington and Sterling Streets in 1963. City government moved into the new building from the old City Hall that was located on Court Street, which was soon after torn down as part of Urban Renewal.

The building also housed the Watertown Police Department until the early 1990's, when the department was moved to a new facility on Waterman Drive, off of Arsenal Street.

The bell that was housed in the old City Hall on Court Street was salvaged and restored, and now sits as a monument beside the building facing Sterling Street.
