Thomas Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church

amezionchurch.jpgThomas Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church stands on Morrison Street in Watertown. The society, founded in the 1870's, constitutes the oldest African American faith community in Watertown, its first members being made up of African Americans who settled in Watertown to work on the railroad. Their first church, made of wood, was built behind Court Street in 1878. The congregation moved to their current stone church on Morrison Street in 1909.

Thomas Memorial was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
