Founded in 1977, the 4 River Valley Historical Society is an organization based in Carthage. The society works to preserve and protect sites and structures of historical importance in areas of western Jefferson County and parts of Lewis County. The four river valleys the organization focuses on are the Beaver, Black, Indian and Deer River Valleys. The organization has taken ownership of several historic properties in the hopes of preserving them for future generations.
